Happy St David’s day people. It’s nice to see Google are on board and even Dave the UKTV network channel has changed it’s logo on the old videobox today to St Dave’s Day.

P.S. Remember it’s my birthday tomorrow =].

I applied for a job in IKEA, the most influential home furniture store in the world. OK perhaps not where every budding graphic designer would like to find themselves but money is a need when there are bills to pay. But in saying that, I thought to myself of the opportunity, working in IKEA could provide me a large amount of inspiration, after all I am yet to come across anyone who has left one of their stores uninspired on how to change their own home to suit the IKEA lifestyle.
When I applied it reminded of the image in my post. Back in the summer of 2009 the design world got into a bit of a bind as IKEA was abandoning it’s own customised version of Futura to use in it’s catalogue and instead was going to use Verdana for future issues. A typeface invented by Microsoft, and it’s intended for use on digital media. So now all of a sudden a typeface which by design terms is bound and shackled for use only with digital media was suddenly in print form. I found myself agreeing with the design critics who were all up in arms over this typeface change. So with this in mind my ambitions of working part time at IKEA had a bit of momentum, for the designer interest in me anyway.
Sadly however I failed to get the job, it’s very difficult for third year students to convince employers that they are there for the long term. Because evidently I am not hence this blog, hence my education, hence my lifestyle and my interests. I think Nandos outings are going to have to wait a little while longer in favour of beans and toast. The true student meal.

This website is a daily visit must! →

www.thefwa.com - never has any one single website influenced me so heavily on how I approach design. The FWA website has been a favourite of mine for over the last three years, so many talented designers and design agencies to aspire towards. This is what makes me want to delve deeper into web design some of the websites featured are just simply spectacular.
